Clean Energy Efforts
In the Field: Case Studies
NETenergy
Motto and Goal
NETenergy is a startup seeking to boost sustainability in the world’s cities. Addressing the problem of carbon emissions from air conditioning, especially during on-peak times, Netenergy has created a product that allows them to store thermal energy for later use, rather than simply relying on air conditioning. Not only does NETenergy mention environmental sustainability, they also cross into social issues by pointed out that NETenergy saves customers money on their utilities.
NETenergy addresses the wicked problem of clean energy by enabling monetary savings and storing energy so that it is not wasted, reducing the need to produce more energy through non-sustainable methods.
Like RedWave, NETenergy is a technology company and will require many technical skills. However, it also requires humanities skills. Communication and persuasion skills to explain the product to potential buyers and investors are necessary to get the company up and running. NETEnergy has applied for many grants, and these applications require writing skills. Motivational skills would be useful within the company, as a startup might often present challenging situations.
An entry level position at NETenergy would likely look similar to an entry level position at RedWave. The position would likely entail sales and outreach functions as the company seeks to disperse its product into the business world. Calling businesses to explain the product and how it would be useful to the company with which you’re speaking would be an entry level duty, as it would both expand sales and give the entry level position experience with the product and the company. The role could potentially involve some writing and social media management as well, depending on the staff already at the company. NETenergy has a LinkedIn profile, but it is not frequently updated and there is no other social media presence. An entry level role could address this.
