Clean Energy Efforts
In the Field: Case Studies
Red Wave
Motto and Goal
RedWave Energy is a technology startup dedicated to creating electricity from existing manufacturing waste. The manufacturing process releases heat that is currently being wasted. RedWave’s technology harvests this heat and converts it into electricity. RedWave’s technology consists of millions of tiny antennas that pick up the heat waste and convert it into electricity. Sustainability plays a big role here, as Redwave’s technology will reduce heat waste and create electricity without generation CO2 emissions.
RedWave addresses the wicked problem of clean energy through its creation of technology that not only harnesses waste produced during the current process and repurposes it, but also by doing so without any CO2 generation. The generation of energy from current waste means less energy will be needed via other means of energy generation that might not be as clean.
RedWave needs technical skills, but humanities are important as well. Communication and persuasion skills to explain the product to potential buyers and investors are necessary to get the company up and running. Motivational skills would be useful within the company, as a startup might often present challenging situations.
An entry level position here, if it is a humanities position, would likely entail sales and outreach functions as the company seeks to disperse its product into the business world. Calling businesses to explain the product and how it would be useful to the company with which you’re speaking would be an entry level duty, as it would both expand sales and give the entry level position experience with the product and the company. The role could potentially involve some writing and social media management as well, depending on the staff already at the company.
